Tim Leary was a pitcher for the Mets in the early 1980s. He appeared in 23 games with the team between 1981 and 1984. Leary recorded four wins and posted a 3.80 earned run average as a Met.

Leary made his major league debut on April 12, 1981. In this game at a frigid Wrigley Field in Chicago, he pitched two innings before suffering a strain of his right elbow that kept him sidelined for the rest of the year. Tim also missed the entire 1982 season due to the injury.

In 1983, Leary pitched in two games for the Mets. He returned to Wrigley Field and was tagged with the loss in an 11-7 Mets defeat to the Cubs. In the second game of a season-closing doubleheader at Shea Stadium on October 2, Tim pitched all nine innings and got his first major league win in a 5-4 Mets triumph over the Expos.

Leary had 53 and two-thirds innings pitched in 1984. He chalked up three wins and 29 strikeouts for the season. Tim got the win and scored a run in a 3-1 Mets victory at Houston on April 8. At Philadelphia on April 20, he hit his first major league home run in an eventual 3-1 Mets win over the Phillies in 10 innings. Leary pitched three shutout innings and recorded the win in the Mets' 2-1 triumph over the Dodgers on May 26 at Shea. He also had five scoreless innings of relief and a stolen base in getting the win as the Mets defeated the Braves, 3-2, in a doubleheader nightcap at Shea on July 1.

On January 18, 1985, Leary was traded to the Kansas City Royals. He pitched ten more seasons in the major leagues. Tim concluded his career with the Texas Rangers in 1994.
