Tim Foli was an infielder for the Mets during the 1970s. He played in 218 games for the team, mostly at shortstop, and compiled a .243 batting average. Foli had 175 hits as a Met during his career.

In 1968, the Mets took Foli with the first overall pick in the free agent draft. He reached the major leagues two years later. Tim got his first two major league hits in the Mets' 3-0 win over the Cardinals on September 12, 1970 at Shea Stadium. His second hit produced his first run batted in as a major leaguer.

Foli appeared in 97 games in a utility role with the Mets in 1971. For the season, he had 65 hits and 24 RBIs. On May 9, Tim had a run-scoring triple and a bases loaded double in each of the first two innings of the Mets' 9-5 win over the Cardinals at Shea. He scored twice and drove in three runs with two doubles in a 9-4 win over the Reds on August 3. Four days later, Foli got a two-run single in the Mets' 20-6 win over the Braves in Atlanta. At Shea on September 25, he singled and scored in the 15th inning for a 2-1 Mets victory over the Pirates. Tim also singled home the Mets' last two runs of the year in a 6-1 victory over the Cardinals in the season finale at Shea on September 30.

On April 6, 1972, Foli was traded with Mike Jorgensen and Ken Singleton to the Montreal Expos for Rusty Staub. Tim played five seasons in Montreal before being dealt to the San Francisco Giants. The Mets reacquired Foli following the 1977 season.

Despite a month on the disabled list, Foli was the Mets' prime shortstop in 1978. He played 113 games and had 106 hits in his first year back with the team. Tim hit a clutch game-tying double and scored the winning run for a 9-8 Mets win over the Dodgers on June 5 at Shea. He singled home the winning run in the 11th inning for a 3-2 Mets win over the Pirates at Shea on June 23. Foli had a run-scoring double to put the Mets ahead to stay in a 7-4 victory over the Astros in a doubleheader opener on July 20 at Shea. In a game at St. Louis on September 19, he homered off the Cardinals' Tom Bruno in the Mets' 5-3 loss. The home run was Tim's only one as a Met in his career.

After playing in three games in 1979, Tim was traded to the Pirates for Frank Taveras on April 19. That season, he batted .291 in 133 games for Pittsburgh's World Championship team. Foli hit .333 in both the National League Championship Series and World Series in '79.

After two more seasons in Pittsburgh, Tim played the next three seasons with the Angels and Yankees. He concluded his career with the Pirates in 1985.
