Terry Leach

Terry Leach was a pitcher for the Mets in the 1980s. He had a 24-9 won-lost record with a 3.11 earned run average. Leach pitched in 176 games as a Met.
Leach began his major league career with the Mets in 1981. He made his debut in the Mets' 7-4 victory in 10 innings at Chicago on August 12. Terry recorded his first win in the Mets' 5-3 victory on September 9 at Pittsburgh.
In 1982, Leach struck out 30 batters in 21 game appearances. He won two games and saved three during the season. At Montreal on June 29, Terry pitched four shutout innings to earn the win as the Mets defeated the Expos, 5-4. He got his first career save with three scoreless innings in an 8-4 Mets win at Philadelphia on July 2. Leach also pitched a 10-inning one-hit shutout for a 1-0 Mets win at Philadelphia on October 1. The one-hitter was Terry's only start of '82.
After two full seasons in the minor leagues, Leach pitched 55 and two-thirds inning for the Mets in 1985. He had a 2.91 ERA and three wins for the year. Terry was the winning pitcher in a 15-10 Mets win over the Braves at Shea Stadium on July 21. He pitched a three-hit shutout for a 7-0 Mets victory over the Giants on August 22 at Shea. Leach also got the win in the Mets' 7-2 triumph on September 13 at Montreal.
Leach appeared in six games for the Mets in the team's 1986 championship season. In 1987, he had the most productive season of his career. Terry had a won-lost record of 11-1 with a 3.22 ERA in 44 games (including 12 starts) in the Mets title-defense season. At Philadelphia on June 27, Leach pitched eight innings and got the win as the Mets beat the Phillies, 5-4. He pitched a two-hit shutout for a 5-0 Mets win at Cincinnati on July 2. At Shea on August 11, Terry recorded his tenth consecutive win as the Mets defeated the Expos, 6-2. He got his 11th win of the year in the Mets' 5-2 triumph over the Phillies at Shea on September 8.
In 1988, Leach had seven wins and three saves in 52 games of pure relief. He pitched a total of 92 innings and recorded 51 strikeouts during the Mets' division-winning year. At Shea on May 4, Terry pitched four innings to earn the save in a combined shutout with Sid Fernandez for an 8-0 Mets win over the Astros. He got his only Shea win of the season in the Mets' 3-2 triumph over the Phillies in 14 innings on June 18. Leach pitched a scoreless inning and got the win in a 9-8 Mets win in 11 innings at Atlanta on July 14. He hurled three scoreless innings and got the win in the Mets' 9-6 victory at Chicago on August 11. In the National League Championship Series, Terry had five scoreless innings pitched in three appearances against the Dodgers.
Terry pitched in 10 games for the Mets before he was traded to the Royals in 1989. He finished the '89 season with the Kansas City team and pitched the next two seasons with the Minnesota Twins. Leach was a member of the Twins' World Championship team in 1991. He ended his career with the Chicago White Sox in 1993.
