The Mets and Marlins made a trade of minor league pitchers in March of 1994. Steve Long was sent to the Florida team in exchange for Robert Person. Long had 12 wins in 38 games for the Mets' AA-level team at Binghamtom in 1993. Person was a five-year minor leaguer who won 12 games at A-level High Desert in '93.
Person was a starter for Binghamton's Eastern League championship team in '94. He later pitched in 30 games for the Mets in 1995 and 1996. Robert had 5 wins and a 4.07 earned run average as a Met. Long pitched two seasons in the Marlins' system and never reached the major leagues.
