Solly Hemus

Solly Hemus was a coach for the Mets in 1962 and 1963. He served under Casey Stengel in the team's first two seasons.
Hemus had an 11-year career as a major league player. From 1949 to 1959, he batted .273 with 51 home runs for the Cardinals and Phillies. Solly was a player-manager for the Cardinals in '59 and continued as team skipper until 1961. After his time on the Mets' staff, Hemus spent two seasons as a coach for the Cleveland Indians. He also managed the Mets' AAA-level team in Jacksonville in 1966.
