Shawn Gilbert

Shawn Gilbert was an infielder for the Mets in 1997 and 1998. He played in 32 games with the team. Gilbert had three hits and three runs scored as a Met.
Gilbert began his major league career with the Mets in '97. In his debut at Shea Stadium on June 2, he singled in his only at bat in a 10-0 Mets loss to the Expos. Shawn hit his first major league home run in the Mets' 10-4 defeat to the Marlins on July 3 at Shea. He also had a single and a run scored in a season-closing 8-2 Mets win over the Braves at Shea on September 28.
In '98, Gilbert was hitless in three at bats with the Mets. He also scored the tying run in the ninth inning of an eventual 4-2 Mets loss to the Diamondbacks in 11 innings on May 4 at Shea.
On June 10, 1998, Gilbert was traded to the Cardinals. He played in four games with the St. Louis team before the end of the year. Shawn spent the next two seasons in the Dodgers' system and got into 15 games with the Los Angels team. He played in the minor leagues for three more years to end his career.
