Shane Spencer was an outfielder for the Mets in 2004. He played in 74 games with the team. Spencer had 52 hits for 76 total bases as a Met.

Spencer came to the Mets after six seasons in the American League. In the home opener on April 12, he singled, doubled and scored a run in the Mets’ 10-6 win over the Braves at Shea Stadium. Shane had a single and a two-run homer in a 9-5 Mets victory at Los Angeles on April 27. He singled, doubled twice and drove in a pair of runs in the Mets’ 6-2 triumph at San Diego on May 2. Spencer had a single and a three-run homer in an 8-2 Mets win over the Giants on May 5 at Shea. He also hit two doubles and drove in the winning run in the ninth inning for a 10-9 Mets victory over the Yankees at Shea on July 3.

On August 7, 2004, Spencer was released by the Mets. He completed the season in the Yankees’ minor league system. Shane then played two years for the Hanshin Tigers of Japan to conclude his career.
