1962: The Mets lose to the Cubs, 5-1, in the final game of their first season. Joe Pignatano hits into a triple play in his last major league at bat.
1966: After eight perfect innings by Houston's Larry Dierker, the Mets score in the ninth for a 1-0 win over the Astros at Shea Stadium.
1971: In the season finale at Shea Stadium, the Mets defeat the Cardinals, 6-1. Tom Seaver wins his 20th game of the year and Ken Singleton hits two home runs.
1979: Ed Kranepool hits a double in his last major league at bat as the Mets defeat the Cardinals, 4-2, in St. Louis.
1981: Lee Mazzilli singles in the ninth inning to drive home the winning run as the Mets defeat the Cubs, 2-1, at Shea Stadium.
1988: David Cone wins his 20th game of the season in the Mets' 4-2 victory over the Cardinals.
2006: The Mets hit five home runs, the last being their 200th of the season (hit by David Wright) to set a new club record.
2007: The Mets lose to the Marlins, 8-1, to complete a major team collapse. Tom Glavine gives up seven runs in only one-third of an inning. Meanwhile, the Phillies defeat the Washington Nationals to win the NL East.
