1966: The Mets defeat the Reds, 8-4, at Cincinnati. The win guarantees the Mets' first non-last-place finish in the National League standings.

1971: Bob Aspromonte singles home the winning run in the 15th inning for a 2-1 Mets victory over the Pirates at Shea Stadium. It is the final hit for Aspromonte in his 13-season major league career.

1974: Bruce Boisclair gets his first two major league hits and drives in a run in the Mets' 6-3 loss to the Phillies at Veterans Stadium.

1979: In the second game of a doubleheader in Chicago, the Mets begin a season-ending six-game winning streak with a 4-3 win over the Cubs in 10 innings. The streak prevents the Mets from reaching the 100-loss mark for the year.

1984: Rusty Staub homers in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Mets a 6-4 win over the Phillies at Shea Stadium. The victory clinches second place for the Mets in the National League East Division.

1986: The Mets win their 100th game of the year with a 6-5 victory over the Cubs at Chicago.

2004: Victor Diaz hits a three-run homer in the ninth inning and Craig Brazell homers in the 11th for a 4-3 Mets win over the Cubs at Shea Stadium.
