1973: The Mets go into first place in the National League East with a 10-2 win over the Pirates at Shea Stadium.
1981: The Mets defeat the Pirates, 4-3, at Shea Stadium. John Stearns scores the winning run on a wild pitch in the 13th inning.
1982: Ron Gardenhire hits a home run in the 10th inning to give the Mets a 2-1 win over the Expos in the first game of a doubleheader at Shea Stadium.
1985: Dwight Gooden hits his first major league home run and gets his 22nd win of the season in a 12-1 Mets victory over the Pirates at Shea Stadium.
1988: The Mets clinch a tie for the National League East Division title with a 4-2 win over the Phillies at Shea Stadium.
1989: Sid Fernandez pitches a two-hit complete game in the Mets' 6-1 win at St. Louis. Fernandez also hits his first career home run.
2001: In their first home game since the September 11 tragedies, the Mets defeat the Braves, 3-2. Mike Piazza's two-run homer off Atlanta's Steve Karsay in the eighth inning puts Shea Stadium into a frenzy and gives New York an emotional victory.
2002: Esix Snead hits a three-run homer in the 11th inning to give the Mets a 6-3 win over the Expos at Shea Stadium. It is Snead's only home run and the only RBIs of his major league career.
2005: Miguel Cairo singles home the winning run in the ninth inning for a 5-4 Mets victory over the Marlins at Shea Stadium.
