1967: Jerry Koosman makes his first major league start, allowing two runs in seven innings pitched against the Astros in Houston. Koosman leaves with a 3-2 lead, but Houston wins with two runs in the ninth.
1968: Jim McAndrew pitches a two-hit complete game for the win in a 3-2 Mets victory over the Cubs at Shea Stadium. A fourth-inning steal of home by Ron Swoboda puts the Mets ahead to stay.
1977: Ed Kranepool hits a three-run double in the ninth inning to give the Mets a 5-4 win over the Cubs in the first game of a doubleheader at Shea Stadium. Chicago wins the second game, 4-3.
1978: Mike Bruhert pitches the only complete game of his major league career with a four-hit shutout at Philadelphia. The Mets defeat the Phillies, 2-0.
1986: The Mets defeat the Cubs, 4-2, to clinch the National League East Division championship.
1995: Rico Brogna hits a grand slam and a solo homer to lead the Mets to an 8-2 win over the Phillies at Shea Stadium.
2001: In their first game after the tragic events of September 11, the Mets score three runs in the ninth inning for a 4-1 win over the Pirates at Pittsburgh.
2002: Jeromy Burnitz hits a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Mets a 3-1 win over the Cubs.
