Sandy Alomar, Sr.

Sandy Alomar, Sr. was a Mets infielder in 1967. He played in a total of 15 games as a second baseman, shortstop and third baseman. In his brief time with the Mets, Alomar was hitless in 22 at bats.

Alomar joined the Mets in a trade with the Houston Astros during spring training of 1967. He made his first appearance with the team as a pinch runner in a 3-2 win over the Pirates at Shea Stadium on April 13. Against the Cubs on April 20, Sandy scored his only run as a Met in a 6-1 win at Shea.

In May of '67, Alomar was sent to the Mets AAA-level team in Jacksonville. After 85 games with the Suns, he was traded with Ken Boyer to the Chicago White Sox for J. C. Martin and Billy Southworth. Sandy continued to play in the major leagues with the Sox, Angels, Yankees and Rangers until his retirement in 1978.

Alomar was a coach for the Padres from 1986 to 1990. During this time, his sons Roberto and Sandy, Jr. were members of the San Diego team. Sandy was a coaching staff member for the Chicago Cubs and Colorado Rockies from 2000 to 2004. Alomar served on the Mets' staff from 2005 to 2009.
