Sammy Taylor

Sammy Taylor was a catcher for the Mets in 1962 and 1963. He collected 44 hits in 90 games played with the team. Taylor had three home runs and 26 runs batted in as a Met.
In '62, Taylor made his Mets' debut with a pinch-hit walk in the team's 8-6 win over the Phillies at the Polo Grounds on April 28. He had a run-scoring triple in a 3-1 Mets win at Houston on June 11. Sammy homered and doubled in a 5-1 Mets loss on July 1 at Los Angeles. He also hit a home run in each game of a doubleheader split against the Cardinals at the Polo Grounds on July 7. In the twinbill, the Mets won the opener by a score of 5-4 and the Cards took the nightcap, 3-2.
Taylor batted .257 in 22 games for the Mets in 1963. He had three runs scored and six RBIs during the year. At the Polo Grounds on June 5, Sammy had two singles, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs in the Mets' 11-9 victory over the Braves. He had a two-run single in a 10-3 Mets loss at Cincinnati on June 16. Taylor also had an RBI triple to put the Mets ahead to stay in the team's 4-1 victory over the Phillies that capped a doubleheader sweep on June 23 at the Polo Grounds.
On July 1, 1963, Taylor was traded with Charlie Neal to the Reds for Jesse Gonder. He played in a total of seven games for the Reds and Cleveland Indians to conclude his career.
