Ruben Gotay was an infielder for the Mets in 2007. He played in 98 games with the team. Gotay had a .295 batting average and 25 runs scored as a Met.
Gotay served as a second baseman, shortstop and third baseman in his lone season with the Mets. At San Francisco on May 9, he homered and scored the winning run in the Mets’ 5-3 victory over the Giants. Ruben had a single, a double, two RBIs and scored the winning run in the ninth inning in a 6-5 Mets triumph over the Cubs on May 17 at Shea Stadium. He singled twice and hit a three-run homer in the Mets’ 7-1 win over the Diamondbacks at Shea on June 2. Gotay had a two-run homer in the first inning of a 3-2 Mets victory over the Reds on July 12 at Shea. He singled three times and scored twice in the Mets’ 13-9 win at Los Angeles on July 19. He also had an RBI double in a 5-2 Mets triumph over the Dodgers at Shea on August 24.
In 2008, Gotay played in 88 games for the Atlanta Braves. He continued his career in the minor leagues the following year.
