Roy Staiger was a third baseman for the Mets from 1975 to 1977. He played in 148 games as a Met, batting .226 with 4 home runs and 37 runs batted in. Staiger also scored 41 runs in his three seasons with the team.

On September 12, 1975, Roy made his major league debut. He went hitless in four at bats in the Mets' 5-1 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. In this game, Staiger became the 50th third baseman in Mets' history.

In 1976, Staiger played 93 games at third base. He got his only major league triple in the Mets' 2-1 loss to the Pirates on July 29. Roy hit a double and his first major league home run on August 2 against the Expos. On August 5, he got three hits, including a homer, in a 7-4 Mets' win at Pittsburgh. Staiger also singled to drive in the Mets' only run in a 1-0 victory over the Phillies at Shea Stadium on September 3.

Staiger hit .252 in 40 games for the Mets in 1977. He was traded to the Yankees the following winter for Sergio Ferrer. Roy got into four games with the Yanks in September of 1979 to end his career.
