The Mets and Expos made a trade of pitchers during the 1991 season. Ron Darling and Mike Thomas were sent to the Montreal team in exchange for reliever Tim Burke. Darling had been a solid starter for the Mets during the team's most successful period in its history, which included a World Championship in 1986. Thomas was at the A-level in the minor leagues. Burke was an All-Star closer for the Expos with seven years of major league experience.
Burke made a total of 50 relief appearances for the Mets in 1991 and 1992. He had a 3.41 earned run average and four wins for the team. Tim recorded only one save as a Met.
Darling had two losses in three games pitched for the Expos before he was dealt to the Athletics on July 31. Thomas never appeared in a game with the Montreal team.
