Rogers Hornsby

Rogers Hornsby was a Mets' coaching staff member in 1962. He served under Casey Stengel in the Mets' inaugural year.

From 1915 to 1937, Hornsby had an outstanding career in which he hit higher than .400 three times and compiled a .358 lifetime batting average. He served as a manager in 14 seasons (11 as a player-manager) with six major league teams. Rogers was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1942.

In 1958 and 1959, Hornsby was a coach on the staff of the Chicago Cubs. He joined the Mets in '62 for what would be his final season in Major League Baseball. Rogers passed away on January 5, 1963.
