Roger Cedeno

Roger Cedeno was an outfielder for the Mets for three seasons. He played for the team in 1999, 2002 and 2003. Cedeno compiled a batting average of .279 and had 105 stolen bases as a Met.
Cedeno came to the Mets from the Dodgers in a trade for Todd Hundley on December 1, 1998. In 1999, he batted .313 with 23 doubles and a team-leading 4 triples. Roger also set a Mets record with 66 stolen bases. On May 12, he had two singles and two doubles in the Mets' 10-5 win at Colorado. Two days later, Cedeno stole four bases and scored three runs in a 7-3 Mets win at Philadelphia. Roger hit a three-run homer in the Mets' 11-3 victory over the Blue Jays at Shea Stadium on June 8. He also had two singles, a homer, a stolen base and three runs scored in an 8-6 Mets win over the Phillies on September 19 at Shea.
In the '99 post-season, Cedeno had 8 hits in 19 at bats for a .421 batting average. He had an RBI single and a stolen base in the Mets' 9-2 win over the Diamondbacks in Game 3 of the National League Division Series on October 8 at Shea. On October 16, Roger had three singles, two stolen bases and a run scored in a 3-2 Mets win over the Braves in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series.
Cedeno was traded with Octavio Dotel and Kyle Kessel to the Houston Astros for Mike Hampton and Derek Bell on December 23, 1999. He played the 2000 season with the Astros and spent 2001 with the Detroit Tigers. Roger rejoined the Mets as a free agent in December of '01.
In 2002, Cedeno batted .260 in 149 games with the Mets. He had 25 stolen bases and 65 runs scored in his first year back in New York. Roger collected a total of six singles in Met victories on April 5 (9-5) and April 6 (11-2) at Atlanta. On May 16, he had two singles, a double and two stolen bases in the Mets' 3-1 win at San Diego. Roger singled twice, hit a triple and stole a base in the Mets' 11-2 win over the Yankees in the Bronx on June 29. He also hit a single to drive in the winning run in the 12th inning for a 3-2 Mets triumph over the Cubs at Shea on September 19.
Cedeno led the Mets 14 stolen bases, 93 singles and a .267 batting average in 2003. He also had 7 home runs and 37 RBIs for the year. On April 2, Roger homered in the Mets' first win of the year, 4-1, over the Cubs at Shea. He hit two doubles in a 6-5 Mets victory at Atlanta on May 23. Cedeno also doubled twice and scored two runs in the Mets' 13-5 triumph over the Cardinals at Shea on August 3.
In August of 2003, Cedeno had two 10-game hitting streaks. He got 19 hits in 45 at bats (.422) over ten straight games from August 1 to August 12. In another ten-game stretch from August 16 to August 26, he went 17-for-40 (.425) and hit safely in each game. Roger batted .346 in 25 games played for the month.
Two days before the start of the 2004 season, Cedeno was dealt to the Cardinals for Wilson Delgado. With the pennant-winning St. Louis team in '04, he hit .265 and appeared in three games of the World Series against the Red Sox. Roger concluded his career with the Cards in 2005.
