Rodney McCray was an outfielder for the Mets in 1992. He appeared in 18 games with the team. McCray served mainly as a reserve and a pinch-runner as a Met. He also had a game-winning hit in his only at bat for the orange and blue.

After two seasons with the White Sox, McCray joined the Mets as a free agent. He had three runs scored while playing for the team in ’92. In his first Mets game on April 15, Rodney scored as a pinch-runner in a 7-2 win over the Phillies at Shea Stadium. He scored in the 13th inning for the only run of a 1-0 Mets victory over the Cardinals at Shea on April 23. McCray scored the winning run in the Mets’ 4-3 triumph over the Astros on April 30 at Shea. In his lone Mets at bat on May 8, he drove in the winning run with a ninth-inning single for a 4-3 victory over the Dodgers.

Rodney played in eight games for the Mets’ AAA-level Tidewater (Norfolk, Virginia) team before his release on June 8. He played for the Thunder Bay Whiskey Jacks of the independent Northern League to conclude his career in 1993.
