Robinson Cancel was a catcher for the Mets in 2008 and 2009. He appeared in 28 games with the team. Cancel had 12 hits and five runs batted in as a Met.

Cancel joined the Mets during the ’08 season. In the second game of a doubleheader at Shea Stadium on June 15, he hit a two-run single that proved to be the game-winner in the Mets’ 4-2 victory over the Rangers. Robinson drove in a run with a ground out to put the Mets ahead to stay in an 8-6 win over the Marlins on August 9 at Shea. He singled and homered in a 7-5 Mets loss to the Pirates at Shea on August 11. Cancel also had an RBI single, a double and a run scored in the Mets’ 7-6 win over the Cubs on September 25 at Shea.

In 2009, Cancel played for the Mets’ AAA-level team in Buffalo. He made his only appearance with the parent club at Citi Field on July 30. As a pinch-hitter, Robinson popped out to second base in the Mets’ 4-2 loss to the Rockies.

Cancel played for the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League in 2010. He joined the Houston Astros the following year.
