Roberto Petagine

Roberto Petagine was a first baseman for the Mets in 1996 and 1997. He played in 62 games with the team. Petagine had 24 hits and 12 runs scored as a Met.

Petagine came to the Mets in a trade with the Padres in March of ’96. At Shea Stadium on June 1, he had two singles, an RBI and scored the winning run in a 4-3 Mets victory over the Dodgers. Roberto hit a two-run homer in a 7-5 Mets loss at Los Angeles on August 24. He had a two-run homer in the Mets’ 7-2 win over the Giants at Shea on August 31. Petagine also homered in a 5-4 Mets defeat at Montreal on September 18.

In 1997, Petagine appeared in 12 games. His only hit of the year was a pinch-hit single in the Mets’ 9-6 win over the Expos in 11 innings at Shea on September 13.

Petagine was traded to the Reds in 1998. He played one season with the Cincinnati team and the next six years with the Yakult Swallows and Yomiuri Giants in Japan. Roberto played for the Red Sox and Mariners in 2005 and 2006. He then played three seasons in Korea, Mexico and Japan to conclude his career.
