Roberto Alomar

Roberto Alomar was a second baseman for the Mets in 2002 and 2003. He batted .265 in 222 games with the team. Alomar had 13 homers and 75 runs batted in as a Met.
After fourteen productive seasons in the major leagues, Alomar came to the Mets in an eight-player trade with the Cleveland Indians. In ’02, he led the Mets with 157 hits for the season. At Shea Stadium on April 14 (the 90th anniversary of the Titanic), Roberto sank the Expos with two homers and four RBIs for a 6-4 Mets win. He singled twice, tripled and scored three runs in a 10-1 Mets victory at Arizona on April 30. Alomar had a single and two doubles in the Mets’ 9-1 triumph over the Phillies at Shea on July 11. He had a run-scoring double and a solo homer in a 4-2 Mets win at Cincinnati on July 19. Roberto reached base five times with three singles and a pair of walks in a 3-2 Mets victory over the Reds on July 26 at Shea. Two days later, he singled three times and scored twice in the Mets’ 6-5 triumph over the Reds at Shea. Alomar also had a two-run single and an RBI double in a 10-5 Mets win at Florida on August 27.
Roberto appeared in 73 games with the Mets in ’03. He collected 69 hits for 94 total bases in orange and blue during the year. Alomar had a pair of run-scoring doubles and scored twice in the Mets’ 7-4 win over the Astros at Shea on April 24. He homered in a 9-6 Mets victory at Colorado on May 12. Roberto had two singles and drove in a run in the Mets’ 7-3 victory at Anaheim on June 13. In his last appearance with the team on June 30, he singled and scored in a 3-1 Mets win over the Expos at Shea. Alomar was traded to the Chicago White Sox following this game.
Over the remainder of the ’03 season, Alomar played in 67 games for the White Sox. He concluded his major league career with the Sox and Arizona Diamondbacks in 2004. Robert was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2011.
