Robert Person was a pitcher for the Mets in 1995 and 1996. He made 14 starts and 16 relief appearances with the team. Person pitched 101 and two-thirds innings and recorded five wins as a Met.
Person joined the Mets in September of ’95. He struck out 10 batters in 12 innings pitched with the team. In his first major league start on September 27, Robert pitched seven innings of three-hit ball and got the win in a 5-4 Mets victory over the Reds at Shea Stadium. He also singled twice and scored a run in the game.
In 1996, Person appeared in 27 games for the Mets. He was the winning pitcher four times and chalked up 76 strikeouts. At St. Louis on June 13, Robert held the Cardinals scoreless for seven innings to earn the win in the Mets’ 2-1 triumph. He pitched seven shutout innings for the win in a 4-0 Mets victory at Montreal on July 4. Person struck out seven batters and got the win in the Mets’ 7-2 victory over the Giants on August 31 at Shea. He also went eight innings for a win as the Mets defeated the Phillies, 4-2, at Shea on September 28.
On December 20, 1996, Person was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays for John Olerud. He pitched for the Jays and the Phillies over the next six seasons. Robert concluded his career with the Boston Red Sox in 2003.
