Rob Gardner

Rob Gardner was a pitcher for the Mets in 1965 and 1966. He pitched 161 and two-thirds innings in 46 games with the team. Gardner had four wins and 93 strikeouts as a Met.
In '65, Gardner made his major league debut on September 1. He was tagged with the loss in an 8-5 Mets defeat to the Astros in the second game of a doubleheader at Shea Stadium. At Shea on October 2, Rob pitched 15 innings of five-hit shutout ball against the Phillies. This game ended after 18 innings with the score still tied at 0-0.
Gardner made 17 starts and 24 relief appearances in 1966. He had a 5.12 earned run average for the year. At Shea on May 6, Rob had a run-scoring double and got his first major league win in a 2-1 Mets victory over the Cubs. He pitched a complete game for a win in the Mets' 6-1 triumph over the Giants on May 15 at Shea. Gardner earned a win in relief in a 9-8 Mets victory over the Pirates in a doubleheader nightcap at Shea on July 3. He also got the win in the Mets' 9-5 triumph over the Pirates on August 18 at Shea.
In 1967, Gardner was traded to the Chicago Cubs. He pitched the '67 season with the Cubs and one season for the Cleveland Indians. From 1969 to 1973, Rob split time with the Yankees and the Oakland Athletics. He concluded his career with the Milwaukee Brewers in '73.
