Rickey Henderson was an outfielder for the Mets in 1999 an 2000. He played in 152 games with the team. Henderson had 226 total bases and batting average of .298 as a Met.

Henderson joined the Mets as a free agent after twenty seasons in the major leagues. In ’99, he hit a team-high .315 and scored 89 runs. At Florida on April 7, Rickey had two doubles, two homers and four runs scored in the Mets’ 6-0 win over the Marlins. He hit two of six Mets home runs in the team’s 11-3 victory at Cincinnati on June 15. Henderson had two singles, a double, a homer and a stolen base in a 7-6 Mets defeat at Los Angeles on June 19. He singled, stole a base and scored a run three times each in a 9-7 Mets win at Tampa Bay on July 16. Rickey collected four singles in the Mets’ 6-1 triumph at San Francisco on August 14. He also had a pair of singles, three stolen bases and a run scored in a 7-1 Mets loss at Arizona in Game 2 of the National League Division Series on October 6.

In 2000, Henderson appeared in 31 games with the Mets. He had 21 hits during his time on the year in orange and blue. On April 19, Rickey had two singles and two runs scored in a 3-1 Mets over the Brewers at Shea Stadium. He did the same in a 15-8 Mets triumph over the Cubs at Shea on April 23. Henderson also singled and scored twice each in the Mets’ 13-6 victory at Colorado on April 29.

Henderson was released by the Mets on May 13, 2000. He completed the season with the Seattle Mariners. Over the next three years, Rickey played for the Padres, Red Sox and Dodgers to conclude his major league career. He served as on the Mets’ coaching staff in 2007. Henderson was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2009.
