Rick Sweet

Rick Sweet was a reserve catcher for the Mets in 1982. He appeared in three games with the team, all as a pinch-hitter. Sweet had one hit in three at bats for a .333 average as a Met.

Sweet played for the Padres in 1978. After two more years in the San Diego system, he joined the Mets' organization. In '82, Rick made his debut with the Mets in a 5-0 loss at Chicago on April 9. He got a pinch-hit single in the Mets' 5-4 win in 15 innings at San Diego on April 28. One day later, Sweet appeared in a 6-0 Mets defeat to the Padres.

On May 21, 1982, Sweet was sold to the Seattle Mariners. He batted .239 over two seasons with the Seattle team to conclude his playing career. Rick went on to a lengthy career as a minor league manager. In 1997, he served as the skipper for the Mets' AA-level team in Binghamton.
