Ray Burris

Ray Burris was a pitcher for the Mets in 1979 and 1980. He had a 3.94 earned run average in 33 games with the team. Burris recorded seven wins as a Met.

After seven seasons with the Cubs and Yankees, Burris came to the Mets on August 20, 1979. He pitched 21 and two-thirds innings over the rest of the season. Ray had a won-lost record of 0-2 with the Mets in '79.

In 1980, Burris led all Mets pitchers with 29 games started. He also had the most innings pitched on the team with 170 and one-third. Ray got his first Mets victory in the team's 3-2 win over the Expos at Shea Stadium on April 16. Five days later, he pitched a combined shutout with Neil Allen for a 3-0 win at Philadelphia. Burris teamed up with Allen again on May 23 for a 2-1 triumph over the Braves at Shea.

Burris pitched his only complete game as a Met with a 7-1 win at Montreal on August 7. At Pittsburgh on August 12, he got the win in a 3-1 Mets victory over the Pirates. Ray celebrated his 30th birthday with a 4-2 victory over the Dodgers on August 22 at Shea.

After the '80 season, Burris signed with the Montreal Expos as a free agent. He pitched in the major leagues for seven more years. Ray ended his career with the Milwaukee Brewers in 1987.
