Randy Niemann

Randy Niemann was a pitcher for the Mets in 1985 and 1986. He was also a team coach. Niemann had a 3.35 earned run average in 35 games pitched as a Met. He recorded two wins and 20 strikeouts with the team.
Niemann was acquired by the Mets from the White Sox in 1985. He spent the '85 season at AAA-level Tidewater (Norfolk, Virginia) and made four appearances for the Mets in September.
In the championship season of 1986, Niemann pitched 35 and two-thirds innings for the Mets. He was the winning pitcher in the team's 8-4 victory at Los Angeles on May 18. Randy pitched three and two-thirds innings of shutout relief in the game. In his only start of the year on August 17, Niemann got the win in 9-2 Mets triumph over the Cardinals in the second game of a doubleheader at Shea Stadium.
Niemann pitched in 6 games for the Minnesota Twins in 1987. He had a 1-0 won-lost record for the Twins in their World Championship season to end his eight-year career. Randy later became a coach in the Mets' minor league system and served on the team's staff from 1997 to 2002. He returned to the Mets' coaching staff in 2009.
