Elijah Jerry "Pumpsie" Green was a third baseman for the Mets in 1963. He batted .278 in 17 games played with the team. Green had 15 hits and 8 runs scored as a Met.

The first African-American to play for the Red Sox, Green was a member of the Boston team for four seasons. He was obtained by the Mets with Tracy Stallard and Al Moran from the Sox for Felix Mantilla on December 11, 1962. Pumpsie spent the '63 season with the Mets' AAA-level Buffalo team before being called up in September.

At Cincinnati on September 6, Green singled three times and drove in a run in the Mets' 5-4 win over the Reds. He had two singles, two walks and a pair of runs scored in a 4-2 Mets victory over the Giants at the Polo Grounds on September 10. Pumpsie hit his only home run as a Met in the team's 8-6 loss to the Phillies on September 17. The next day, he hit the last triple in Polo Grounds history in the Mets' 5-1 loss to the Phils. Green also got a run-scoring single in his final major league game at Los Angeles on September 26.

Green played 165 games for Buffalo in 1964 and 1965. He ended his career as a professional player with 7 games for the Detroit Tigers' affiliate in Syracuse in '65.
