Phil Mankowski was a third baseman for the Mets in 1980 and 1982. He had 10 hits in 21 games played for the team. Mankowski drove in five runs as a Met.

After four seasons with the Detroit Tigers, Mankowski came to the Mets with Jerry Morales in a trade for Richie Hebner. He appeared in 6 games for the Mets in 1980 before a shoulder injury and illness sidelined him until September. Phil came back with two pinch-hitting appearances in the final week of the season.

Mankowski spent the 1981 season with the Mets' AAA-level Tidewater team in Norfolk, Virginia. In 1982, he played in the minors until being recalled by the Mets in June. Phil had 8 hits and 4 RBIs with the Mets in '82. On July 10, he hit a sacrifice fly in a 9-7 Mets win over the Padres at Shea Stadium. He singled twice and drove in a run in the Mets' 8-3 win at Los Angeles on July 18. Mankowski also had a double that scored the Mets' only run in a 5-1 loss at San Francisco on July 20.

Phil ended the '82 season in the minor leagues to finish his playing career.
