Phil Lombardi was a catcher for the Mets in 1989. he played in 18 games with the team. Lombardi had 11 hits for 15 total bases as a Met.
Lombardi came to the Mets in a five-player trade with the Yankees on December 11, 1987. After spending the 1988 season at AAA-level Tidewater (Norfolk, Virginia), he joined the Mets in '89. Phil had two singles and a home run in the Mets' 4-3 loss at Montreal on June 28. He singled and scored in an 8-3 Mets win over the Reds on July 8 at Shea Stadium. Lombardi singled twice and scored two runs in a 7-5 Mets victory over the Braves at Shea on July 22. He also had a pair of singles and an RBI in a season-closing 7-3 Mets win on October 1 at Pittsburgh.
