Paul Byrd

Paul Byrd was a pitcher for the Mets in 1995 and 1996. He appeared in 55 games with the team. Byrd had three wins and 57 strikeouts as a Met.
Byrd started his major league career with the Mets in ’95. In his debut on July 28, he pitched two-thirds of an inning in a 10-9 Mets loss to the Pirates at Shea Stadium. Paul recorded his first major league win in the Mets’ 5-4 victory over the Giants in 11 innings on August 21 at Shea. He also pitched two and two-thirds scoreless innings with three strikeouts to get the win in a 6-5 Mets triumph at Montreal on September 9.
Despite missing the first two months of the season with a herniated disc, Byrd pitched in 38 games in ’96. He racked up a total of 46 and two-thirds innings during the year. Paul’s only win of the season came in the Mets’ 10-6 triumph at Philadelphia on July 3. He also had a pair of scoreless innings in an eventual 6-5 Mets win over the Braves in 12 innings on September 14 at Shea.
On November 25, 1996, Byrd was traded to the Atlanta Braves for Greg McMichael. Over the next six seasons, he pitched for the Braves, Phillies and Royals. Paul also pitched for the Angels, Indians and Red Sox before the end of his major league career in 2009.
