Pat Mahomes was a pitcher for the Mets in 1999 and 2000. He had a 13-3 won-lost record with the team. Mahomes recorded 127 strikeouts in 157 and two-thirds innings as a Met.
Mahomes joined the Mets after six seasons with the Twins and Red Sox. He had a perfect record of 8-0 in the ’99 season. In his debut with the team on May 15, Pat pitched two and one-third scoreless innings, hit a double and got the win in a 9-7 Mets victory at Philadelphia. He pitched the last three innings to earn the win in the Mets’ 4-3 triumph over the Blue Jays in 14 innings on June 9 at Shea Stadium. Against the Yankees on July 10, Mahomes pitched a scoreless ninth inning and was the winning pitcher in the Mets’ 9-8 victory at Shea. He won his own game with a run-scoring single in the 13th inning for a 5-4 Mets triumph over the Cubs at Chicago on August 1. Pat struck out five batters in three and one-third scoreless innings to get the win as the Mets defeated the Cardinals, 7-4, at Shea on August 21. He also pitched scoreless 10th and 11th innings for the win in a 3-2 Mets victory over the Pirates on October 1 at Shea.
In 2000, Mahomes pitched 94 innings in 53 game appearances. He made five starts for the team during the year. At Pittsburgh on April 16, Pat was the winning pitcher as the Mets defeated the Pirates, 12-9. He got the win in an 11-3 Mets victory over the Orioles at Shea on June 7. Mahomes walked away with a win despite facing only one batter in the Mets’ 6-4 victory over the Red Sox on July 14 at Boston. He got the win in a 5-3 Mets triumph at Montreal on July 19. Pat also struck out four batters in three scoreless innings for the win in the Mets’ 3-2 victory over the Expos in 13 innings on October 1 at Shea.
Mahomes pitched for the Texas Rangers in 2001. He spent the following year with the Chicago Cubs. Pat concluded his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2003.
