Orlando Mercado was a catcher for the Mets in 1990. He played in 42 games with the team. Mercado had 19 hits (including three home runs) and seven runs batted in as a Met.

Mercado had eight years of major league experience before joining the Mets as a free agent. In ’90, he made his team debut in a 3-1 loss at Montreal on April 15. Orlando hit a two-run homer in the Mets’ 9-3 win over the Pirates on June 9 at Shea Stadium. He had two singles and a double in a 9-6 Mets victory in the second game of a doubleheader at Chicago on June 13. Mercado hit a home run in the Mets’ 6-0 win over the Cardinals on June 19 at Shea. He also singled and homered in the Mets’ 9-8 win at Atlanta on July 5.

On August 30, 1990, Mercado was claimed on waivers by the Expos. He played in eight games for the Montreal team over the rest of the season. In 1991 and 1992, Orlando played for the Mets’ AAA-level Tidewater team in Norfolk, Virginia. He concluded his career in the minor league in 1994.
