Octavio Dotel was a pitcher for the Mets in 1999. He had 8 wins and 85 strikeouts in his lone season with the team. Dotel pitched 85 and one-third innings as a Met.

In ’99, Dotel pitched in 19 games to begin his major league career. He had seven consecutive winning decisions during the season. At Shea Stadium on July 24, Octavio struck out nine batters in seven and one-third innings and got the win as the Mets defeated the Cubs, 2-1. He pitched seven innings and fanned ten batters for the win in a 2-1 Mets triumph over the Dodgers on August 6 at Shea. At San Diego on August 16, Dotel held the Padres hitless for six innings in the Mets’ 4-3 win. He had six strikeouts in eight innings and chalked up a win in a 6-3 Mets victory on August 27 at Arizona. Octavio fanned nine hitters and got his seventh straight win in the Mets’ 7-5 triumph over the Giants at Shea on September 8. He was also the winning pitcher in a 4-3 Mets victory over the Braves in 15 innings in Game 5 of the National League Championship Series on October 17 at Shea.

Following the ’99 season, Dotel was traded to the Houston Astros with Roger Cedeno and Kyle Kessel. The Mets received Mike Hampton and Derek Bell in return. Octavio had a 22-24 won-lost record in five seasons with the Houston team. From 2005 to 2010, he pitched for eight other major league teams.
