Mike Stanton was a pitcher for the Mets in 2003 and 2004. He appeared in 133 games in relief for the team. Stanton recorded four wins, five saves and 92 strikeouts as a Met.

Stanton joined the Mets after fourteen seasons in the major leagues. In ’03, he had 45 and one-third innings pitched. At Shea Stadium on April 25, Mike pitched two scoreless innings and got the win in a 4-3 Mets victory over the Diamondbacks. He pitched a scoreless 10th inning to pick up the win in the Mets’ 4-2 triumph over the Padres on May 10 at Shea. Stanton retired all six batters he faced for a save in a 3-1 Mets win over the Reds at Shea on July 25. He pitched scoreless ninth innings for saves in the Mets’ 5-4 victory at Houston on August 7 and 3-1 triumph at Arizona the following day. Mike got credit for a save in a 6-5 Mets win at Atlanta on August 26. He also pitched a scoreless top of the ninth for a save in a Mets 5-3 victory over the Pirates on September 24 at Shea.

In 2004, Stanton had a 3.16 earned run average. He set a team pitching record with 83 game appearances during the year. On April 19, Mike pitched scoreless seventh and eighth innings in the Mets’ 4-1 win over the Expos at Shea. He had a pair of perfect innings pitched in a 4-1 Mets victory over the Marlins at Shea on June 3. Stanton accomplished the rare feat of four strikeouts in an inning in the Mets’ 12-3 win at Milwaukee on August 3. He pitched one and one-third scoreless innings for the win in a 4-2 Mets triumph at Colorado on August 19. At San Francisco two days later, Mike pitched a perfect inning and got the win in the Mets’ 11-9 triumph over the Giants in 12 innings.

Stanton continued to pitch in the major leagues for three more seasons. He concluded his career with the Reds in 2007.
