Mike Scott was a pitcher for the Mets from 1979 to 1982. He pitched 364 and two-third innings over 84 games with the team. Scott recorded 14 wins and 151 strikeouts as a Met.

Scott made 15 starts in 24 game appearances with the Mets in the 1979 and 1980 seasons. He pitched a total of 81 and two-thirds innings and struck out 34 batters. Mike got his first major league win in the Mets' 10-3 victory over the Giants at Shea Stadium on April 24, 1979. He pitched his first complete game with an 8-0 shutout over the Cardinals at Shea on September 28, 1980.

In 1981, Scott led the Mets with a 3.90 earned run average. He pitched 23 games in the strike-shortened season and had a won-lost record of 5-10. At Shea on May 8, Mike pitched in hard luck as he was tagged with a 1-0 loss in a matchup with Dodgers' rookie phenom Fernando Valenzuela. He pitched a complete game in recording a 6-1 win over the Cubs at Shea on May 29. At the Houston Astrodome on June 7, Scott was the winning pitcher in a 3-1 Mets victory over the Astros. In the game, Mike helped his own cause with a sacrifice fly to drive in a run.

Scott had 22 starts and 15 relief appearances in 1982. For the year, he recorded 7 wins and 3 saves. On April 14, Mike pitched a complete game and hit his first career double for an 8-1 win over the Phillies at Shea. In the Mets' 13-4 triumph over the Dodgers at Shea on May 16, Mike got the win and drove in two runs. Scott got credit for saves in Met victories over the Cardinals on June 18 and June 19 at St. Louis. He also hit two doubles and scored a run while pitching the Mets to a 2-1 win at Montreal on July 1.

Following the '82 season, Scott was traded to the Astros for Danny Heep on December 10. Mike pitched nine seasons with the Houston team, winning 110 games and the 1986 National League Cy Young Award. Mike also had his uniform number 33 retired by the Astros
