Mike Maddux was a pitcher for the Mets in 1993 and 1994. He appeared in 85 games in relief for the team. Maddux had five wins, seven saves and 89 strikeouts as a Met.

From 1986 to 1992, Maddux pitched for the Phillies, Dodgers and Padres. He came to the Mets in a trade with San Diego. In ’93, Mike made his Mets debut with a perfect ninth inning in the team’s 6-1 win over the Rockies on April 7 at Shea Stadium. He pitched two scoreless innings for a save in a 4-1 Mets victory at Cincinnati on April 17. Maddux had four innings pitched to earn a save in the Mets’ 8-3 win over the Expos on June 21 at Shea. He got his first win as a Met in a 10-8 victory over the Pirates in a doubleheader nightcap at Shea on August 7. Mike pitched a scoreless ninth inning and got the win in a 5-4 Mets triumph over the Reds on August 24 at Shea. He also recorded two strikeouts in a perfect ninth inning for a save in the Mets’ 4-3 win at Pittsburgh on September 21.

In 1994, Maddux had 32 strikeouts in 44 innings pitched. He recorded two wins and two saves during the strike-shortened season. At Chicago on April 6, Mike pitched two perfect innings for the save in a 4-1 Mets win over the Cubs. He pitched the final three innings for a save in the Mets’ 9-1 victory over the Astros on April 16 at Shea. Maddux had three and one-third scoreless innings to get the win in a 5-4 Mets triumph over the Reds at Shea on May 28. He also had a scoreless inning and got the win in the Mets’ 10-9 victory in 11 innings at St. Louis on July 26.

After leaving the Mets, Maddux continued to pitch in the major leagues from 1995 to 2000. He served as the pitching coach for the Brewers from 2003 to 2008. Maddux then became a coach for the Rangers. With Mike of the staff in 2010, the Texas team won its first American League pennant.
