Mike G. Marshall was a relief pitcher who concluded his 14-year major league career with the Mets in 1981. He pitched in 20 games with an earned run average of 2.61 during his five and one-half weeks with the team. Marshall's won-lost record with the Mets was 3-2.

Mike became a standout reliever in the early 1970s. As a Montreal Expo in 1973, he set a major league record with 92 games pitched and had a National League leading 31 saves. The following year, he appeared in a new record 106 games for the NL champion Los Angeles Dodgers, winning 15 and saving 21 of them. For the 1974 season, Marshall was named the National League Cy Young Award winner. He also pitched for the Detroit Tigers, Seattle Pilots, Houston Astros, Atlanta Braves, Texas Rangers and Minnesota Twins.

In '81, Marshall was the winning pitcher in his first two appearances at Shea Stadium as a Met. On August 25, he pitched the final two innings of a 2-1 Mets win over the Astros. Two days later, he got credit for another win as the Mets defeated Houston, 3-2. Mike's only other win as a Met came in the team's 5-4 victory over the Phillies on September 16 at Shea. He also pitched two and two-thirds innings of scoreless relief in a 4-3 Mets win over the Pirates in 13 innings at Shea on September 21.

Marshall last major league appearance came in the Mets' 3-0 loss to the Expos on October 2. He pitched one and one-third innings of scoreless relief. The result of this game gave his former Montreal team a tie-clinching for the National League East second-half title.
