Mike Birkbeck

Mike Birkbeck was a pitcher for the Mets in 1992 and 1995. He pitched in five games with the team, all as a starter. Birkbeck had 34 and two thirds innings pitched as a Met.

Birkbeck pitched four seasons with the Brewers in the 1980s. In ’92, he signed with the Mets as a free agent. At Shea Stadium on August 31, Mark was tagged with the loss in a 7-5 Mets defeat to the Braves in the second game of a doubleheader. This was his only appearance with the team during the year.

After two years with the Braves’ AAA-level team in Richmond, Birkbeck rejoined the Mets in ’95. He had a 1.63 earned run average with the team during the year. At Shea on May 29, Mark pitched seven shutout innings in an eventual 3-2 Mets loss to the Padres in 13 innings. In his last game with the team on June 11, he had seven innings of three-hit ball before the Mets fell to the Padres, 6-3, at San Diego.

In 1996, Birkbeck concluded his career with the Yokohama Bay Stars of Japan’s Central League.
