Miguel Cairo was an infielder for the Mets in 2005. He played in 100 games with the team. Cairo had 82 hits for 106 total bases as a Met.
In ’05, Cairo joined the Mets for his tenth major league season. He led the team with 12 sacrifice bunts during the year. In the home opener on April 11, Miguel had a run-scoring single and a stolen base in the Mets’ 8-4 win over the Astros at Shea Stadium. He had a single, a sacrifice fly and a run scored in a 6-3 Mets victory at Washington on May 1. Cairo hit a home run in the Mets’ 7-1 triumph over the Yankees on May 21 at Shea. He had three singles, two stolen bases and three runs scored in a 6-1 Mets victory at Florida on May 28. Miguel singled three times in the Mets’ 9-8 win over the Brewers on August 2 at Shea. He hit a single in the ninth inning to drive in the winning run for a 5-4 Mets triumph over the Marlins at Shea on September 21. Cairo also had a single, an RBI double and a run scored in a 6-5 Mets victory at Washington on September 26.
Cairo left the Mets after the ’05 season. He played for five other major league teams between 2006 and 2011.
