Melvin Mora

Melvin Mora was an infielder and outfielder for the Mets in 1999 and 2000. He played in 145 regular season and nine post season games with the team. Mora had a total of 67 regular and post season hits as a Met.
Mora joined the Mets from their AAA-level team in Norfolk during the ’99 season. At Shea Stadium on July 6, he singled for his first major league hit in the Mets’ 10-0 win over the Expos. Melvin walked with the bases loaded for his first major league RBI in a 5-1 Mets victory over the Cubs on July 25 at Shea. In the National League Championship Series against the Braves, Mora played in all six games and had a .429 batting average. He hit his first major league home run in the Mets’ 4-3 loss in Game 2 of the Series at Atlanta on October 13. Melvin also had two singles and an RBI in a series-ending 10-9 Mets defeat in 11 innings in Game 6 on October 19 at Atlanta.
In 2000, Mora accumulated 91 total bases and scored 35 runs with the Mets. At Shea on April 20, he hit his first ever regular season home run in the 10th inning to give the Mets a 5-4 win over the Brewers. Melvin had a sacrifice fly, a two-run homer and a pair of runs scored in a 14-11 Mets victory at Colorado on April 30. He singled twice, doubled, homered and stole a base in a 9-0 Mets triumph over the Pirates on June 25 at Shea. Mora had a pair of singles, a double and two runs scored in the Mets’ 6-5 win over the Marlins at Shea on June 28. He also drove in three runs with a single and homer in a 6-4 Mets victory at Boston on July 14.
On July 28, 2000, Mora was traded to the Orioles. He spent seasons with the Baltimore team and played for the Rockies in 2010. Melvin joined the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2011.
