The Mets faced the Braves at Shea Stadium on a Saturday afternoon. Ron Swoboda provided all the offense for the home team with two home runs. The Mets defeated Milwaukee, 4-2.

In the top of the first inning, the Braves loaded the bases against Mets' starter Jack Fisher. With one out, Hank Aaron singled in between walks to Ty Cline and Eddie Mathews. Fisher then got Joe Torre to hit into a double play, ending the Milwaukee scoring chance.

Bobby Klaus and Johnny Lewis led off the bottom of the first with walks. Braves' starter Denny Lemaster retired Ron Hunt and Joe Christopher before Swoboda came up to bat. Ron hit a home run to give the Mets a 3-0 lead.

Fisher continued to keep the Braves scoreless. Jack allowed only four hits from the second inning to the seventh while pitching shutout ball. The Mets increased their lead to four runs when Swoboda hit his second homer of the game off Milwaukee reliever Phil Niekro in the bottom of the sixth.

Pinch-hitter Lou Klimchock led off the top of the eighth inning with a single. Fisher retired Aaron, but Mathews followed with a two-run homer. After Torre singled, Tom Parsons relieved Fisher and retired the next two Braves batters to end the inning.

In the top of the ninth, Parsons was replaced by Dennis Ribant after two leadoff Milwaukee singles. Ribant got Felipe Alou and Klimchock to fly out to left fielder Jim Hickman. Aaron then fouled out to first baseman Ed Kranepool to end the game. Fisher had his first win of the year and the Mets had a victory on Swoboda's slugging.
