The Mets faced the Yankees in the second game of their Subway Series on a Saturday afternoon the the Bronx. Cliff Floyd and David Wright combined for three home runs within the first five innings. The Mets bombed the Yanks, 10-3.
In the first inning, Mike Cameron walked and Floyd homered to give the Mets a quick two-run lead. Wright then led off the second with another homer off Yankee starter Sean Henn. The Yanks responded with a two-run double by Robinson Cano off Tom Glavine in the bottom of the second to cut the Mets' lead to 3-2.
Jose Reyes singled and stole second to start the top of the fifth for the Mets. Reyes scored on a one-out double by Carlos Beltran and Floyd homered again to extend the Met lead to 6-2. Penn was then replaced on the mound by Scott Proctor.
In the sixth, Reyes' single off Proctor scored Chris Woodward with another run for the Mets. Floyd then drew a walk from reliever Mike Stanton to open the top of the seventh. Mike Piazza followed with a single off Paul Quantrill and Wright doubled to bring home Floyd. A sacrifice fly by Woodward scored Piazza from third base before Ramon Castro's two-out double to center field drove in Wright with another run for the Mets.
Cano homered off reliever Danny Graves to lead off the bottom of the ninth. Graves retired two of the next three batters before striking out Alex Rodriguez to end the game. The Mets had a rout over the Yankees for their second win of the weekend series.
