The Mets and Expos faced each other on a Wednesday night in Montreal. Ron Darling pitched eight innings of two-hit shutout ball in picking up the win. The Mets came out with a 4-0 victory.

In the first inning, Kevin McReynolds got a two-out single off Expos' starter Chris Haney. Howard Johnson followed with a home run to give the Mets a 2-0 lead. The Mets added another run in the third when McReynolds came home on a two-out single by Hubie Brooks.

Darling did a masterful job on the mound for the Mets. Through the first seven innings, he allowed only a single to Dave Martinez and faced the minimum three batters five times. In the eighth, the Mets scored again on Tommy Herr's single that brought home Rick Cerone before Ron retired the Expos on one hit in the bottom half of the inning.

Alejandro Pena pitched a perfect bottom of the ninth to end the game. The Mets had an impressive shutout win. It was their third victory in as many days over Montreal.
