Julio Machado was a pitcher for the Mets in 1989 and 1990. He had a 3.18 earned run average in 37 relief appearances for the team. Machado had 4 wins and 41 strikeouts as a Met.

Machado joined the Mets in September of 1989. In his first major league game on September 7, he pitched the final inning of the Mets' 13-1 win over the Cardinals at Shea Stadium. Julio struck out 14 batters while issuing 3 walks in 11 innings pitched in '89.

In 1990, Machado spent time with the Mets and their AAA-level Tidewater team in Norfolk, Virginia. At Montreal on April 13, he got his first major league win in the Mets' 4-1 victory in 10 innings over the Expos. He recorded two strikeouts in the ninth inning to pick up a win as the Mets defeated the Braves, 2-1, at Shea on April 24. Julio also struck out three batters in two shutout innings in the Mets' 7-1 win over the Pirates on June 8 at Shea.

On August 30, 1990, Machado was traded with Kevin Brown to the Milwaukee Brewers for Charlie O'Brien. He concluded his career with the Brewers in 1991.
