Julio Franco

Julio Franco was an infielder for the Mets in 2006 and 2007. He played in 135 games with the team. Franco had 55 hits for 74 total bases as a Met.
Franco joined the Mets as a free agent at the age of 47. In the ’06 season, he had six stolen bases and a .273 batting average. At San Diego on April 20, Julio hit a two-run homer to put the Mets ahead to stay in a 7-2 win over the Padres. He had a two-run single in the Mets’ 9-7 victory at San Francisco in 11 innings on April 26. Franco drove in a run with a double in a 9-8 Mets win over the Phillies in 16 innings on May 23 at Shea. He had a single, a double, a stolen base and scored a run in a 6-2 Mets triumph over the Reds at Shea on June 22. Julio had four singles in six at bats in 6-4 and 11-3 Mets wins at Atlanta on July 28 and July 29, respectively. He also had a single, a two-run double and a three-run homer in the Mets’ 13-0 victory at Washington on September 30.
In ’07, Franco had 50 at bats with the Mets. At St. Louis on April 4, he had a sacrifice fly and a run scored in the Mets’ 10-0 win over the Cardinals. Julio had a two-run homer and a stolen base in a 5-3 Mets victory at Arizona on May 4. He also singled in his final Mets at bat in the team’s 5-3 triumph in 17 innings at Houston on July 7.
Franco completed the ’07 season with the Braves. He played with the Tigres de Quintana Roo of the Mexican League in 2008 to conclude his playing career. Julio also served as manager for the Mets’ Rookie-level Gulf Coast team in 2009.
