Team: Los Angeles Dodgers
Sent: Juan Samuel
Received: Mike Marshall, Alejandro Pena

The Mets and Dodgers made a trade between the 1989 and 1990 seasons. Infielder Juan Samuel was sent to Los Angeles in exchange for first baseman Mike Marshall and relief pitcher Alejandro Pena. Samuel was a seven-year major leaguer who played with the Mets in '89 after joining the team in an unpopular deal during the year. Marshall and Pena had each played their previous nine major league seasons with the Dodgers.

Marshall was acquired by the Mets to solidify the team's first base position. With the emergence of Dave Magadan, his time became limited. Mike played in only 53 games for the Mets in '90, batting .239 with 6 home runs and 27 runs batted in. He was dealt to the Boston Red Sox for three minor league players during the season. Pena had a 2.98 earned run average with 9 wins and 9 saves in two seasons as a Met. He was traded to the Atlanta Braves in 1991.

In 343 games over three years with the Los Angeles team, Samuel hit .258 with 25 home runs and 63 stolen bases. He was released by the Dodgers during the 1992 season.
