Juan Berenguer

Juan Berenguer was a pitcher for the Mets from 1978 to 1980. He appeared in 16 games with the team. Berenguer had one win and 40 strikeouts as a Met.
Berenguer made his major league debut on August 17, 1978. As a starter, he was tagged with the loss in the Mets' 9-2 defeat to the Padres at Shea Stadium. Juan made two more starts and two relief appearances for the Mets over the rest of the '78 season.
In 1979, Berenguer spent the year with the Mets' AAA-level Tidewater team in Norfolk, Virginia. He also made five starts for the Mets in September. In the first game of a doubleheader at St. Louis on September 28, Juan recorded his first major league win in a 6-2 Mets victory over the Cardinals.
Berenguer appeared in six game in relief for the Mets in 1980. Juan pitched nine and one-third innings and struck out seven batters for the year.
In March on 1981, Berenguer was traded to the Kansas City Royals. He split the '81 season between the Royals and the Toronto Blue Jays. Juan pitched four seasons with the Detroit Tigers, during which he became part of a World Series winner in 1984. He was also a member of the Minnesota Twins' 1987 World Championship team and the Atlanta Braves' National League pennant winner in 1991. Berenguer ended his career with the Royals in 1992.
