Josias Manzanillo

Josias Manzanillo was a pitcher for the Mets from 1993 to 1995 and in 1999. He had a 4-4 won-lost record and 98 strikeouts during his time with the team. Manzanillo posted a 4.21 earned run average and recorded two saves as a Met.
Manzanillo came to the Mets from the Milwaukee Brewers in a trade for Wayne Housie on June 12, 1993. He struck out 11 batters in 12 innings pitched over the remainder of the ’93 season. At Chicago on September 4, Josias struck out three Cub batters in one and two-thirds scoreless innings.
In 1994, Manzanillo made 37 relief appearances for the Mets. He had a 2.66 ERA and was the winning pitcher three times. At Shea Stadium on June 12, Manzanillo got the win as the Mets defeated the Expos, 5-4. He recorded a victory on July 4 in the Mets’ 2-1 win in 10 innings at San Francisco. Josias also got a win in a 7-4 Mets victory over the Dodgers at Shea on July 19.
Manzanillo’s only Met saves came during the ’94 season. In each one, he pitched two hitless innings to seal a Mets win. At St. Louis on May 8, Josias faced the minimum six batters to finish off a 3-2 victory. He also hurled two perfect innings to end the Mets’ 3-1 win on June 30 at San Diego.
Manzanillo pitched in 12 games for the Mets during the 1995 season. His only win of the year came at Shea on May 15 as the Mets defeated the Expos, 5-3. In June of ’95, Josias was placed on waivers. He finished the season with the Yankees and also pitched for the Seattle Mariners in 1997.
In 1999, Manzanillo returned to the Mets. He made 12 relief appearances between April 5 and May 9. Josias pitched five more seasons with the major leagues with the Pirates, Reds and Marlins to end his career.
